A Labor of Love Testimony. . .     “The Lord & My New Beginning”

New Beginnings Maternity Home has saved my life!

I was 18 years old and four months pregnant, living with my son’s father. Things were getting complicated. I called my mother to come take me away from the mess I was in. She forced me to go to a homeless shelter. Because I was pregnant, the shelter told me about a place in Morgantown called New Beginnings Maternity Home.

I decided in April of 2001 to go to the maternity home... and that is where my true “new beginning” with The Lord started. My son was born on August 13 , 2001. I stayed at the home and began to try to figure out how to be a parent to my son, Andrew... how to earn a living for myself... and how to grow in the Lord. I knew I was surrounded by people who loved me. In the years since that time I have made many, many mistakes, but through it all I am learning about His unconditional love and forgiveness.

Today, my life is changed and has a “new beginning.” I have a blessed little boy who God protected for me. He loves Jesus very much and at age 8 is quite a little prayer warrior. I have been embraced by Terry and Judy as their daughter and I now have the Christian family that I have always longed for and I know they will always be there for me and my son. I see myself as a Godly woman, learning each and every day, how to be an example to the residents in the home because of the experiences I have been through. I love ministering to the girls that come to the home... broken and hurting and scared... just as I was in 2001.

Jesus Christ has used New Beginnings to save my life! It is here at the maternity home that my son has found his true grandparents... his Memaw and Papa. It is here that my son and I both found Jesus. It is here that I was spiritually adopted into a loving family. It is here that I fell in love with My Savior, Jesus. So, in closing, I will continue to rely on Jesus and my prayer is that I will remain devoted to Him and with His grace, I will serve Him for the rest of my life.

In Christ,
Amy Davis

The Story of Melissa and Hannah

Melissa was introduced into our program 4 months into her pregnancy. All of her doctors visits and ultrasounds came out positive; she did everything right. No one was ready for the traumatic birth that her daughter was going to endure. When Hannah, Melissa’s daughter, finally was born, she was not breathing. When the doctors resuscitated her, they found her to have been without oxygen far too long and her little heart was just not strong enough to pump the blood through her body. Hannah was also showing signs of a seizure that most likely happened during the delivery. Hannah stayed in the NICU hooked up to oxygen and wires taken through her belly button to her heart to constantly monitor the beat.

Melissa left the hospital alone 5 days after giving birth and went back to the maternity home to start the waiting game that encompassed her daughter’s life.

Through much prayer, Melissa, her family, and the staff at labor of Love watched

Hannah grow strong enough to be released from the hospital and come home on a heart monitor and oxygen. Then she was able to be taken off the heart monitor. After more praying, she ended her use of oxygen. Hannah, now having just celebrated her 4 birthday is a happy, energetic little girl.

Melissa is parenting Hannah and is now employed with Labor of Love as a House Parent. God has intervened so many times at Labor of Love, but He chose to show everyone involved that He knows what His children need and that He is more powerful than any medical intervention. When all the odds were against baby Hannah, God shone through and saved this precious little life, and in the process, saved her Mom’s life.

Melissa and Hannah’s story is truly a testament to the work that God has done through Labor of Love Ministries.
